Overseas Intervention Process

What happens when you contact us

1

Referral

Upon contact, you will receive a Parent Questionnaire and make arrangements for an Initial Assessment

Initial Assessment

You and your child will come by at the agreed time and date to play, engage and be observed by your attending clinician.

Parent Interview

After your child’s assessment, there will be an interview with your attending clinician to talk about your child and further clarify any concerns.
4

Intervention

Within the first month of intervention, you can expect a finalized therapy program plan from your attending clinician. These are goals and objectives set in collaboration with all parties involved.
5

Progress Review

At the end of your intervention stage, your attending clinician will discuss with you the overall progress of your child and decide what to do next.

Next Intervention Stages

You can expect continued intervention in working with your child’s needs with appropriate reviews, discussions and new goals until there are no more concerns.

    Parents and professionals work hand in hand for an occupationally just world for all children to live happily and meaningfully.

    Mission

    To provide quality family-centred occupational therapy services and to promote knowledge of occupational therapy so as to enable and empower our clients to be successful in their jobs of daily living.

    Since 1998

    Ms. Jeanette Suen, principal and founder of Hand in Hand, worked as the sole therapist, seeing clients mostly with autism. On seeing the needs of having a variety of therapy programmes to cater to the various needs of the clients and families, she began to build a team of occupational therapists of like minds. To ensure high quality services, she prefers to keep the team small so that there are plenty of opportunities for the team members to interact and learn from one another. Furthermore, she believes a therapist’s understanding of the local culture makes a major difference in the development and delivery of the intervention programmes. In all these years, she keeps the team to about five to six occupational therapists, preferably with local training and/or with local experience.

    Since 2018

    In 2018, Jeanette brought onboard Jasmine and Fadhilah whose expertise focuses strongly on the clients’ active participation within their communities. Home visits and/or school-based observations are provided to assess their physical environments and identify the potential barriers which impedes their participation within the community. Non-affiliated programs such as inclusive school at the 2 preschools and Bridging Talents have supported the therapy program to provide in-house speech therapy programs, inclusive learning within a formal educational setting, as well as continued education to equip both therapists and caregivers in caring for the clients’ struggles and quality of life.

    Since 2023

    In 2023, we welcome our new Director, Mr. Gerald. He is a dedicated occupational therapist with a passion for utilizing technology and media platforms. With his expertise, we aim to expand our reach and provide even more families and children with the support and services they need. His unique blend of clinical experience and innovative approach will help Hand in Hand enhance our pediatric occupational therapy services, ensuring we can connect with and support more clients in meaningful ways.

    My son, Owen, is non-verbal and has been with Hand in Hand for 10 wonderful years! Under the patient guidance of Ms Feng Min, he has grown into a fine young man who is able to express his ideas through writing. We are very proud of him today and are also very grateful to Ms Feng Min and everyone in Hand in Hand. The last 10 years were never easy for Ms Feng Min. There were episodes of biting, hair pulling and countless tantrums. But Ms Feng Min persevered with her professionalism and had great faith in Owen.
